About Counselling

Accepting that you may need help and seeking help can feel a very daunting task. Finding the 'right' person for you is likely to be the key to how valuable your counselling experience is. I offer a free 20 minute initial consultation giving you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and to see if the way I work feels comfortable for you.

My approach to counselling

I will support you, by providing a non-judgemental, empathic and safe space to explore different ways of looking at your life and the choices you make. I provide the opportunity for you to gain better insight into yourself, your situation and the way you relate to others. My role is not to offer solutions, as I believe you can discover your own answers towards leading a contented life. I am able to integrate different counselling approaches, such as creative gestalt or cognitive behavioural techniques where appropriate for personal growth.

Humanistic counselling, believes we each have the potential to grow and change in positive ways. Gestalt is an holistic approach, considering our mind, body, emotions and spirit, form our whole and that we each experience reality in a unique way. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) believes our thoughts create how we feel and act. Challenging our negative thought patterns and replacing them with more realistic ones can improve the way we think and the way we behave.

All are proven therapeutic approaches for people looking for practical, positive ways to address problems and create change in their lives.

I am able to offer counselling in person, by video link or telephone.

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a type of talking therapy that allows a person to talk about their problems and feelings in a confidential and dependable environment.

Counselling aims to help you deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel uncomfortable. It can provide a safe and regular space for you to talk and explore difficult feelings. The counsellor is there to support you and respect your views. They won't usually give advice, but will help you find your own insights into and understanding of your problems.

What to expect from Counselling

During your counselling sessions, you will be encouraged to express your thoughts, feelings and emotions. By discussing your concerns with you, I am able to then help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, as well as identifying ways of finding your own solutions to problems.

It can be a great relief to share your worries and fears with someone in confidence who understands and acknowledges your feelings and is able to help you live the life you want to lead. This may range from acceptance of yourself or your situation to achieving an outcome which provides a new found inner happiness.
